Cupcakes vs Cake

It seems cupcakes are fashionable again.  Whether on a fancy wedding tower or at a childs birthday party, cupcakes are "in".  There are many variations, styles, and flavors along with ways to display the cupcakes.  You've got wrappers that surround each cake.  They come in various colors, designs and patterns.

Does choosing cupcakes vs a traditional cake mean you are going the "cheaper" route?  Are cupcakes informal for a formal event?  The answer to both questions is NO.  Cupcakes can be decorated, designed and displayed to suit the event at hand.

For a formal wedding, a charming tower filled with cupcakes surrounded by wrappers coordinating with the wedding colors, filled with a delicate cupcake topped with fluffy icing with a sugar flower on top can add class and is eye catching.

If the event is less formal, say a childs birthday party, think about not having to serve the guest.  Cupcakes are "self serve".  Instead of a dessert plate and fork, all that is needed to indulge in a cupcake is a napkin to wipe the icing from your nose.  Again, a tower and wrappers can be used for this event, just something that coordinates with the theme or color pallet of the party.

But back to the question of are they cheaper than a traditional cake...NO.  The price for cupcakes start at $3.00 and go up depending on the design.

So consider the cost and the fact that most bakeries have a minimum number they will bake in an order.
